News >> Website Launched DETROIT - Sept. 9, 2002 - The Michigan Council of Women in Technology (MCWT), an organization providing outreach, professional development and service to the Michigan technology community, today announced a series of significant Chapter milestones accrued throughout the summer. The group also announced a preview to its fall program schedule.

Group launches website; first outreach sponsorship

Launched in April 2002, the organization champions the growth and ongoing development of technology leadership. To foster timely communication and information about the group, MCWT recently unveiled its website, located at www.mcwt.org . Available to members and non-members alike, the site provides information about upcoming events, membership information, insight into the group's community endeavors, profiles on the organization's leaders, and information about sponsorship and leadership opportunities.

MCWT also recently initiated its first outreach sponsorship, providing the opportunity for a group of young students to obtain valuable technology skills and leadership. Through a contribution provided by the Microsoft Corporation, MCWT was able to present five scholarships to area girls to attend University of Michigan-Flint's first annual Tech Camp. The one-week camp was open to students enrolled in grades 3-8. The program's objectives were to provide exposure to new tools and uses of technology, integrate technology with other subject matter areas including social studies, math, science and language arts, and explore technology in a manner that might not be available to them in school. The camp held two separate week-long sessions this summer at the University of Michigan-Flint.

"Providing the resources to mentor and build leadership in future technology leaders is considered among our most important organizational values," said Sandy Moore, MCWT President. "Thanks to the generosity of Microsoft, and the staff from University of Michigan-Flint who provided for this first-time endeavor, we were able to support a highly powerful and educational experience for these young students." The scholarship recipients ranged in age from 9-13.

Fall professional development session to provide insight on trends, innovation

MCWT is pleased to also announce its upcoming professional development session, sponsored by Delphi Corporation. "Technology in the Fast Lane: Where it is, where it's going and how to keep up" is the title and topic of the Oct. 3 networking and professional development event, to be held at the Michigan State University Management Center in Troy, Mich. The event, scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m., and run through 9:00, will supply a view into current and future technology trends, and provide practical wisdom regarding how professionals can stay current while balancing other work and personal demands. To obtain further details about the event and registration, please visit www.mcwt.org .

"We are simply thrilled at the progress made by the organization so quickly after our launch," added Moore. "We attribute the success and enthusiasm around MCWT to our highly dynamic members and generous sponsors. We look forward to continuing to provide ongoing professional resources and leadership to the Michigan technology community as a whole."
